Day 01 Arrival at Dimapur - Kohima

Kohima Local People

Arrive in Dimapur and meet your tour guide before exploring the lively local market, rich with Naga flavors and culture. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, then drive to Kohima (70 km / approx. 2 hours), home to the Angami tribe. Settle into your accommodation upon arrival and relax for the evening. Overnight stay in Kohima.

Day 2 Kohima Attractions

Hornbill Festival

This morning, we explore Kohima, beginning with the poignant Second World War Cemetery, a memorial to the brave soldiers who gave their lives during WWII. Each grave bears bronze-engraved epitaphs, with the iconic inscription: “When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today.” We then visit the Kohima State Museum, showcasing Nagaland’s rich culture through fascinating artifacts (closed on Mondays and government holidays). Later, we travel to Khonoma, Nagaland’s first green village, known for its history, biodiversity, and terraced farming. We also visit Touphema, a traditional Angami village recognized as a cultural tourism site.

Day 3 Excursion: Hornbill Festival, Kigwema & Khonoma

Today, we visit Kigwema, a historic Angami village that witnessed a Japanese attack on 4th April 1944 at exactly 3:30 PM. A simple stone memorial at the village entrance stands in quiet remembrance of that day. The village also offers a glimpse into the enduring traditions of Angami life. Next, we explore Jakhama Village, where a walk through lush paddy fields and along riverbanks reveals traditional farming and fishing practices. We’ll also see bullet-marked walls from WWII and visit local pigsties, fisheries, and even a snail farm. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Naga dinner with a local family and interactive session.

Day 4 Kohima - Jorhat

Tea Estate

This morning, drive to Jorhat (210 km / approx. 5 hours), the cultural and tea capital of Assam. Explore its rich Ahom heritage, scenic tea estates, and colonial charm. In the afternoon, visit a tea estate for a tour and tasting session. Later, enjoy a peaceful evening walk at the historic Jorhat Gymkhana Club. Overnight stay in Jorhat.

Day 5 Jorhat - Mon

Konyak Tribal People

Today, journey to Mon (140 km / approx. 5 hours), the final stop in your Nagaland exploration. Located near the Indo-Myanmar border, Mon is home to the Konyak Nagas, famed for their facial tattoos and headhunting legacy. Travel through rugged, untouched landscapes to reach this remote region. Discover the tribe’s rich traditions, craftsmanship, and warrior heritage. Visits to nearby border villages offer a unique cultural encounter, providing an unforgettable glimpse into authentic Naga life.

Day 6 Mon Attractions

Local People of Nagaland

After breakfast, check out and drive to Longwa Village, one of Mon district’s most culturally rich destinations. Situated on the Indo-Myanmar border, Longwa offers a unique glimpse into Konyak tribal life. A key highlight is the Village Chief’s house, which spans both countries. The Angh governs villages on both sides. Experience authentic traditions, interact with locals, and explore their warrior heritage. Surrounded by remote, peaceful landscapes, this visit promises a deeply immersive cultural encounter. Note: A local guide is mandatory.

Day 7 Mon - Dibrugarh

Heritage Bungalow in Tea Estate

After an early breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive to Dibrugarh (120 km / approx. 4 hours), known as the Tea Capital of Assam. Surrounded by lush tea gardens, Dibrugarh offers a peaceful retreat and the chance to stay in a charming heritage tea bungalow, reflecting the colonial lifestyle of tea planters. En route, explore Assam’s rich history with visits to Shiva Dol, the tallest Shiva temple in India; Rang Ghar, Asia’s oldest amphitheater; and Talat Ghar (Kareng Ghar), the grand Ahom palace. After a day filled with heritage and scenic beauty, arrive in Dibrugarh for an overnight stay.

Day 8 Dibrugarh - Ziro

After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Ziro (230 km / approx. 6 hours), crossing the impressive Bogibeel Bridge over the Brahmaputra River. Nestled at 1,500 meters, Ziro is a tranquil haven in Arunachal Pradesh, known for its pine-covered hills, bamboo groves, and rice fields. Home to the Apatani tribe, the region is rich in unique traditions, including the facial tattooing of women. Upon arrival, soak in the serene landscape.

Apatani Tribe

Today, explore the rich heritage of the Apatani tribe by visiting the traditional villages of Hong, Dutta, and Hari, where closely built homes reflect the strong community spirit. Interact with elderly women who still wear traditional facial tattoos and nose plugs, offering a fascinating look into their cultural history. Visit Apatani farms practicing innovative rice cultivation and fish farming. A walk through the local market provides insight into their customs, crafts, and cuisine. End the day with a visit to a local winery to sample traditional rice beer.

Day 10 Ziro - Majuli

Today, embark on a captivating journey to Majuli (160 km / 4-5 hours), the world’s largest river island and Assam’s cultural heart since the 16th century. Reach the island via a ferry across the Brahmaputra River, offering scenic views and glimpses of daily life along the water. Majuli, a haven for migratory birds and nature enthusiasts, has shrunk due to soil erosion but retains its cultural significance. A hub for Neo-Vaishnavite philosophy, the island hosts 22 Vaishnavite Satras, preserving Assamese art, dance, and music. Tonight, experience Majuli’s charm with an overnight stay in a traditional Mishing tribal house, Chang Ghar.

Day 11 Majuli Attractions

Pottery Making

This morning, explore Majuli’s cultural heritage by visiting its Vaishnavite monasteries, starting with Aunia Satra, known for its Assamese artifacts and traditional dances. Next, visit Uttar Kamalabari Satra to witness Sariya dance and spiritual teachings. Interact with monks and learn about their devotion to Vaishnavism. Explore a Mishing tribal village, traditional pottery-making, and mask-making villages. Optional: Enjoy a traditional dance performance at Uttar Kamalabari Satra for a deeper cultural experience.

Day 12 Majuli - Kaziranga National Park

One Horned Rhinoceros

Today, enjoy a scenic ferry ride from Majuli to Jorhat, taking in the peaceful Brahmaputra River before continuing your journey to Kaziranga National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kaziranga is famed for its biodiversity, particularly its population of the Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros. The park's diverse landscape—dense forests, elephant grass, marshlands, and water bodies—provides a rich habitat for rhinos, tigers, elephants, panthers, wild buffaloes, and numerous bird species, offering a truly immersive wildlife experience.

Day 13 Kaziranga National Park

Start the day with an early morning jeep safari through Kaziranga National Park, where you’ll encounter the majestic one-horned rhinoceros, elephants, swamp deer, and diverse bird species in the misty grasslands. After breakfast, visit a Mishing tribal village to engage with locals and explore the Kaziranga Orchid Center, home to a wide variety of native orchids. For food enthusiasts, an optional cooking session offers a chance to prepare traditional Assamese dishes, followed by a lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy another jeep safari in the Western Range, spotting rhinos, tigers, and wild elephants. End the day with a cultural dance performance at your resort.

Day 14 Kaziranga National Park – Guwahati

Departure

After an early breakfast, check out from your resort and drive towards Guwahati Airport (190kms / 4 hours driving ) to board your flight for onward journey. Enjoy the scenic landscapes of Assam one last time as you bid farewell to the mesmerizing Northeast.
